The Big Sagebrush (Artemisia Tridentata) is the state flower of Nevada, and its characteristic aroma has become emblematic of the American West. It remains an important plant for Native Americans who burn it in the practice of ceremonial rituals and for air purification. Recently, the importance of Big Sagebrush as a habitat for diversified wildlife has been more recognized and its preservation has become important to many ecological groups. Because of Sagebrush's abundance, the singular plant is sometimes overlooked, but it is the singular sagebrush plant, based on its size, that creates the different colors of the Sagebrush Ocean, and as one plant joins with another, they create the waves of the great Sagebrush Ocean, keeping all life flowing.
